Sealing Pouch Leather
By Eliyahu Shahar

Bill, There has been a lot of discussion about sealing pouch leather
for a while on the MMD, and many have brought up two different
ideas, instead of using the rubber cement.

1. Sealing with 111 Dow Corning Silicon (thinned),
2. Sealing with Hydrophane leather treatment (an added advantage
is that it protects the leather for years),
3. Sealing with egg whites (suggested by Ed Gaida).

Considering that you're not a newcomer (in fact, I'm pretty sure
that I'm a newcomer compared to you), I assume that you know all that,
but I can add that I can't find rubber cement anymore here in Israel,
either, and they won't let you take the thinner on a plane anywhere.

If you can't find the rubber cement thinner, you may have to bite the
bullet and try a new way. I have used both 111 Dow Corning silicon and
Hydrophane in the past and have found the mechanism responds excellent
with both pouch sealers. I've yet to try egg whites, though the idea
appeals to me.
