Here are details of an Allison pedal-operated player grand that someone
has for disposal in Highams Park, north-east London. It needs to be
shifted fairly fast as the house is for sale. It's been a family
possession since the early 1950s.
It's a very clean-looking light-mahogany piano, serial number for 1932
(its looks match that date), and I'm told it was recently appraised as
being structurally sound. The works underneath appear to be intact and
look remarkably like Aeolian parts. The spoolbox is detached but
present. I can't quite figure out how it was mounted, other than it
was above the keys: the pictures I've seen are not clear and the music
desk masks the location. There are 150 rolls to go with the it.
So, I'm not sure exactly what it is, but a guess would be something put
together by APPA, formed by a few workers from Aeolian's London piano
factory when it shut. Anyhow, something well worth looking at if
you're in the UK and want a player grand. It would be a shame for it
to be scrapped.
I'm only the messenger: contact the seller directly; he can provide
pictures or arrange a viewing. Joe McAllister, tel. +44 (0)20 8923 6178
