1960s Aeolian Artist Clyde Ridge
By Robert Perry

Hi Pat and group, In my ongoing efforts to research the lives of
music roll artists, I did uncover some information about Clyde Ridge.
The Billings Rollography states:

'He was probably born within a few years of 1925, stood about 5'4",
and he had some difficulty walking, having had polio as a child,
and was somewhat "retiring." An accomplished pianist, he played
small events on the side. Mr. Morton says that Clyde Ridge was
very talented, not only in arranging, but in playing and restoration
of pianos. In about 1965, when Mr. Morton sold his Aeolian Piano
Roll Company, Clyde Ridge obtained a "permanent gig" in Las Vegas,
and moved there. His present whereabouts are not known.'

Using this information I was able to locate Mr. Ridge's entry in
the Social Security Death Index, which provided a middle initial (H.),
a date of birth (11 July 1914) and date of death (23 January 1997)
in Las Vegas).

The ASCAP Biographical Dictionary lists him as Clyde Herman Ridge,
born 1914.

There are a few Clyde Ridges in the US Census, but the best match (with
matching middle initial) shows him as having being born in Missouri and
living there in both 1920 and 1930 Census.

Hope these little facts help. I agree his rolls are outstanding with
a style unlike any other roll artist!
