John Phillips asks about how to glue striking pneumatics in a way that
the pneumatic doesn't become hinge-bound. The way I learned to glue
them is just be careful not to apply too much glue (but just enough,
though), and indeed glue the hinge side of the pneumatic while it's in
closed position.
I learned to 'break' the glue after the glue has dried. (I always wait
a day or two, so the glue hardens). This involves moving the pneumatic
boards in the opposite direction as they normally travel, so sideways,
not up and down. This puts a bit of stress at the hinge which breaks
the glue which has soaked into the hinge material, and this makes the
pneumatic move freely.
Be careful to check that there are no pieces of crushed glue inside
the pneumatics when you glue them onto the deck, else they will be
sucked into the valve system or get stuck in a corner of the pneumatic
and wear them out fast.
I hope it's clear what I mean, else just ask and I'll make a drawing,
which should clear it up.
