Hamburg Steinway Model "O" Welte-Mignon
By Herb Lindahl

I am attempting to help a client in New York City with a Hamburg
Steinway Model O with an early Welte reproducing system. Sometime in
the 'seventies it was worked on and a part of that work was to convert
the tracker bar to play Ampico rolls. This makes little sense to me
but I am sure anything is possible.

The original pump was replaced with a box type turbine pump available
from PPCo. The original remote pump is still with the piano. It
appears to have a direct current motor.

The Welte controls (for Tempo, Re-roll, etc.) are written in German.

My questions are:

1. What type of Welte music rolls would this system have
   originally used? (Green, Red, etc.)

2. Does a tubing schematic exist for this early Welte system?

3. Are these pianos desirable from a collector's standpoint?

4. Does anyone have an interest in this piano, or better yet,
does anyone have experience with servicing or rebuilding one?

I would truly appreciate any info concerning this piano. I also
have many photos of the instrument and the player system. I would
enjoy private emails as well as public responses for the benefit
of this group. Thank you.
