FS: Welte Licensee Baby Grand in Connecticut
By Andy Millard

-- forwarded message, please reply to sender and MMDigest --

Piano available, free, because of imminent house renovation.
Location: Weston, Connecticut. The piano is a reproducing piano
by Kranich & Bach, with the Welte-Mignon (Licensee) mechanism.
Based on the serial number of 69323, I believe it dates to 1927. It
is 57 inches wide, 64 inches long (I think that makes it a baby grand).
Curved wooden spacers connect the pairs of legs. The player mechanism
is in a full-width drawer. It is not a "Red roll" player (according to
my Internet research).

The player part is non-functional. In my non-expert opinion it needs
a full renovation. I cannot determine if all pieces are present, but
it's obvious that much rubber tubing has perished. The piano has a
couple of dud keys. Its history is unknown as the piano came with the
house when we bought it in 2000. During our ownership it has never
been tuned or renovated.

As far as moving it is concerned, it is in a ground floor room. Once
outside, a minimum of six steps would have to be negotiated.

Photos can seen at http://www.pbase.com/apmillard/piano If you need
additional photos please let me know of which components and I will try
to oblige.

We do not expect payment -- in fact, because I would rather see it
rescued than destroyed, and as we would have to make some effort to
get rid of it I will contribute $75 to the moving costs for someone who
rescues it. Apart from that, moving and shipping is up to the "buyer"
to arrange.

In the event that there is no interest, I am willing to take
additional photographs before its destruction if they would be of help
to any restorers of similar pianos. Also, if nobody takes the whole
piano I am willing to dismantle and ship some components provided that
my expenses are covered.

House renovation may commence in May 2009, so anyone interested should
not delay getting in touch with me by email.
