Attention, classical music roll collectors! Albert Petrak here, to
tell you that I still have some of the translation of the wonderful
German publication, "Im Aufnahme Salon Hupfeld", which becomes in
English, "At the Hupfeld Recording Salon."
It was a brave undertaking of a couple of years ago, underwritten by
my organization, the Reproducing Piano Roll Foundation, and published
in Leipzig by Verlag Janos Stekovics, Halle. The expenses never were
successfully recovered completely, but were regarded by me as a labor
of love.
Mind you, this is not the "book" with its amazing pictures of places of
Hupfeld activity worldwide, and of some 32 performers at the keyboard
in the salon. Rather, it is the text surrounding and embellishing the
detail of the artists and the places in which it was displayed.
Regretfully, the pipeline between Frau Esther Fontana, editor, and
Cleveland dried up when orders declined, and e-mails to her address
have gone unanswered recently. In my enthusiasm for this project,
I ordered 75 copies of the text, which is, by the way, superbly
transferred, with absolute accuracy and complete detail of articles by
Frau Fontana, Prof. Martin Elste, Head of the Berlin Mechanical Museum,
and Hans-W. Schmitz, known to some of you from his long service in
"the cause of Welte", and short bios of the 32 principals.
In addition, there is a good deal of information about the various
roll companies and great detail of the Leipzig major contributor,
Ludwig Hupfeld et Cie.
I am offering copies to you for a $10.00 (or more) donation to the
Reproducing Piano Roll Foundation (non-profit, 501 "3" C). Mail check,
money order or cash to the same, at 4800 Country Lane, #615, Cleveland,
OH 44128-5849. You may also make use of PayPal, if desired. Only 30
copies remain, so act quickly.
Best greetings to you all,
Albert M. Petrak - Founder, The Reproducing Piano Roll Foundation
