Hi All, I am redoing the felt bushings on the four connecting arms
of my Ampico "A" pump.
Following instructions, I am impregnating the felt with a "maple
syrup consistency" of graphite powder mixed in denatured alcohol.
After I applied the mixture and let it dry, I inserted the shaft of
one of the pump bellows brackets and sort of "burnished" the graphited
felt. I noticed that a lot of graphite powder came out, and in just
handling the arms, more graphite keeps coming out. (It is quite
messy!) However, I noticed that after some time of working with the
arm, very little graphite continued to come out.
Has the graphite in the felt reached an acceptable equilibrium or
should I try to get more graphite back into the felt? In other words,
how can I tell if there is enough graphite in the felt to do the job
of lubricating the bushing?
Thanks,
Pat DeWitt
