Hello MMD, I am happy and proud to report here the birth of a new web
site, where you can find sort of a database of all Manufacturers of
Automated Instruments from Leipzig - Products and Patents between 1876
and 1930.
The web address for the English entry port is
http://mfm.uni-leipzig.de/hsm/content.php?lang=en
Apart from this introduction everything else is confined to the German
language out of reasons that should be evident.
The dictionary came to life as a joint project by the Museum of Musical
Instruments of Leipzig University and the GSM (Society for Self-Playing
Musical Instruments). The motivation not to print the dictionary but
to present it on-line to the community, was the chance of getting
feedback in case of corrections, additions, etc. and of integrating new
findings on short terms.
I recommend consulting the immense collection of data, whenever the
Leipzig area is relevant to one of the instruments of your interest.
