Mechanical Music Auction in Atlanta 21-22 March
By Norman Narmore

Hello everyone, After over 50 years of collecting and displaying huge
amounts of nostalgia -- including cars, bicycles, Coca Cola collectibles,
and almost anything else you can think of -- Bobby and Ruthie Protsman,
the proprietors of the Stone Mountain Park, Automobile and Treasure
Museum outside Atlanta, have decided to sell everything and retire.

I wanted the group to be aware that everything in the museum will be
sold at auction on March 21st and 22nd, including an assortment of
mechanical music items. Among the 1000+ lots offered will be the
following musical instruments;

- Mortier 101-key dance organ with many books (200+ meters)

- Mortier 69-key organ with 200+ meters of books (shown in
  Bowers' "Encyclopedia")

- Wurlitzer 153 band organ, dual roll frame, previously on the Asbury
Park, N.J., carousel (in very, very good looking and working condition)

- Arburo/Bursens dance organ with rolls (large and lively!)

- Five Seeburg nickelodeons, including two B's and an E.

- Western Electric cabinet coin piano

- Nelson-Wiggen cabinet coin piano with instruments

- Polyphon Style 54 upright, coin operated machine with 24.5" discs
  (82" tall and nice!)

- Regina music box with 15.5" discs

- Four tall, built up, coin operated, "O" roll piano-orchestrions

- Four or five other A- or O-roll coin operated built up instruments

A little off topic but still of interest to many of us are over
a dozen carousel figures by Allan Herschell, Herschell-Spillman and
probably others that will also be auctioned. The assortment includes
several nice menagerie pieces.

The usual disclaimer applies. I don't have anything to do with the
sale other than being a longtime friend of Bobby and his father Tommy,
who founded the Museum. I am planning on visiting the collection this
weekend so if anyone has any specific questions about any of the items,
I might be able to help.

The auction is being managed by Rich Penn Auctions. I called them and
received the 80-plus page catalogue in only two days. I believe they
will be set up for both proxy and Internet bidding if you can't make
it to Atlanta. See http://www.richpennauctions.com/

Good luck!
