Evapo-Rust Rust Remover Temperature
By Craig Smith

Hi All, I keep forgetting to send in this tip about using Evapo-Rust
to remove rust on various parts. You can look back in the MMD Archives
and see my original posting about this great rust removal product.
But I have recently done something that seems obvious and improves
the results.

Like most chemical processes, the chelation process that makes
Evapo-Rust work is accelerated if you raise the temperature. I work
in the basement of my house so it's cooler that the main floor.
In an attempt to minimize spousal concern, I don't bring my jug of
Evapo-Rust upstairs where it's several degrees warmer than in the
basement.

A few weeks ago it dawned on me that there is one place in the basement
that is actually warmer than upstairs. The metal heat ducts run the
length of the basement, strapped to the ceiling joists. So I can place
the Jif Crunchy Peanut Butter jar full of Evapo-Rust on top of the main
duct and it stays cozy warm while the rust is being converted at (not
quite) lightning speed. The jar is usually a little over 100 degrees
F. and the rust removal process is quite a bit faster.

Guess this won't work very well in the summer but with winter still
upon us, I get a little something extra from the $300+ per month I pay
to the gas company.

Regards,
Craig Smith - At least it's not snowing in upstate New York.
