It's too bad that everyone cannot hear all the different arrangements
of a tune from different arrangers of mechanical music. I have found
that there is a vast difference between arrangements for different roll
styles.
I love all the different styles of a tune. How about the difference
between the Wurlitzer APP roll of "Japanese Sandman" and the
PianOrchestra version? Vastly different! The larger orchestrion
arrangements seem to be rather simpler, but excellent in their own
right. I am always impressed with the Popper Gladiator arrangements of
a tune. Example: "The Charleston" on the Popper Gladiator sounds
rather simple but, with the deep bass pipes, it really hits home. And
it is nothing like the QRS arrangement!
Cheers to the creativity of the Golden Age of mechanical music, and may
we someday be able to hear all of those arrangements!
