Seek Pedal Plate for Broadwood Player Piano
By Roger Waring
I am seeking a [exhauster] pedal for a John Broadwood upright player
with Duola expression system. The small top collar at the rear that
houses the steel rod of the pedal linkage has disintegrated due to
metal fatigue.
The pedal itself consists of a metal plate 9 inches by 4 inches with
a 1/2-inch rebate all around into which fits a wooden block to which
the rubber pedal mat is glued. At the lower rear of the plate are two
horizontal large bore collars (3/8-inch internal diameter) into which
the static bottom pedal linkages fit. On the inner side of the upper
rear of the plate is a smaller bore collar that houses the linkage that
travels with the pedal top.
The collar plate is about 1 inch square at the base, and about 7/8 inch
to the top of the cylindrical portion (1/4 inch internal diameter) that
houses the pedal spindle. The cylindrical portion has a centre cutout
into which the linkage locking collar fits.
The part is affixed to the pedal plate by four small corner tabs
turned through 90 degrees that slot inside the plate and are bent over.
Viewed end on, the collar looks rather like the Greek letter Omega.
It is made of a continuous strip of steel about 1/16 inch thick.
If anyone has one for sale I would be most grateful for a replacement,
as brazing does not seem an ideal solution. For photos please email me.
Thanks to all.
