It's too bad that everyone cannot hear all the different arrangements
of a tune from the different arrangers of mechanical music. I have
found that there is a vast difference between arrangements for
different roll styles. This is probably old news to collectors, but
bear with me.
I love all the different styles of a tune, such as the difference
between the Wurlitzer APP roll of "Japanese Sandman" and the
PianOrchestra version. Vastly different! The larger orchestrion
arrangements seem to be rather simpler, but excellent in their own
right. I am always impressed with the Popper Gladiator arrangements of
a tune. For example, "The Charleston" on the Popper Gladiator sounds
rather simple, but with the deep bass pipes it really hits home! And
it is nothing like the QRS arrangement!
Cheers to the creativity of the Golden Age of mechanical music, and may
we someday be able to hear all of these arrangements!
