Whilst it is very sad that roll production is due to cease at QRS,
it doesn't come as a great surprise to me. New roll issues have been
scarce and the web site has not made it easy for potential customers
to find out what was on offer.
In my endeavours to make some new music for 88-note players, I must
say that response has been disappointing and I am reviewing my own
situation regarding roll production. Personally, I blame MIDI
conversions as a factor in the demise of perforated music. I have
seen the organ music business fall to an all-time low because of MIDI
conversions, and it is easy to get MIDI files, legitimately or not, via
the Internet, which although they are possibly not made specifically
for the instrument in question, they 'will do the job'.
I hope that a rescue will be successful for the QRS business and even
if it means moving the equipment, surely there are enough committed
people in the USA who can make sure the job is done properly.

Stephen Simpson
