On Monday, December 29th, I attended the graveside service for Durrell
Armstrong in Wichita. The service was held at White Chapel Memorial
Gardens in Wichita, Kansas. It was a beautiful sunny day, something
rare for Kansas in December. The service was attended by over two dozen
of Durrell's family and friends with many more friends across the
country there in spirit.
The service was conducted by Reverend Ron Rich, a long-time resident of
Wichita. In preparing the service, Reverend Rich realized that he had
also ministered to Durrell's mother while she was in the nursing home.
He remembered her and spoke a few words about her too.
Reverend Rich read from scripture and then gave those in attendance
the opportunity to say a few words about Durrell. Several people spoke
about their memories of him. The service ended with the saying of The
Lord's Prayer and the playing of "Amazing Grace."
I picked up extra copies of the memorial brochure for Durrell that
was handed out at the service. On the front is a picture of Durrell,
on the back is a picture of an upright pumper. If you would like one
of these memorial brochures, please write to me.
