G'day all, After reading some of the other posts on here, I was lucky
just to have the eBay listing removed and not have an instrument
destroyed (torched keys) like Bruce Grimes mentioned in his listing.
In regards to my issues, I did write another, friendly complaint to eBay
and their answer was pretty much just a "cut and paste" of their policy
stating that ivory is not permitted to be sold/listed/exported, etc.
I have since written again (and again friendly) expressing my view that
selling a piano with ivory keys in Australia is _not_ illegal. I have
asked for my first listing fees (about $7) to be credited back to me.
I don't think it's a fight I'm going to win, as the eBay office staff
that read these emails do not know the correct line of action to take
and will just keep simply referring me back to their policy. On any
future sales I do on eBay I will just have to be careful on what words
I use to describe the item.
Just out of curiosity I did a quick search on other items that I'm
sure would of fallen under this "animal policy", and yet I find listed:
sharks teeth (complete jaw sets), whale tooths, minks and furs. I'm
confused how these are okay to sell but pianos with ivory keys are not.
Thank you to the readers out there who have answered here and who have
also emailed me with advice and support.
Regards, Daniel Cox :)
