I was just visiting New York City, and saw a Chickering Player Grand
for sale in a Manhattan thrift shop (i.e. one selling donated items).
It is an Ampico A, seems to be all original, and has a price tag of
$2,000. There are no rolls. In fact, the lady at the counter told me
that the player action had been removed, and she wasn't particularly
interested in being informed otherwise.
I was pressed for time and there was some stuff piled on top of the
lid, so I didn't make a detailed inspection. Nor do I know how firm
they are on the price. My experience has been that thrifts are more
open to offers than regular antique dealers. MMDers with an interest
can investigate for themselves at the City Opera Thrift Shop, 222 East
23rd Street, Manhattan.
