Hello, I am in process of a complete restoration of a 1925
Wurlitzer 146-B band organ. This is a comprehensive and detailed
project to return the organ to as factory accurate condition as
possible. It should be a very nice machine when completed.
In addition to the restoration I am also researching the organ's
history. This can be a frustrating process since organs were
commonly resold, traded, sold again, put into storage, owners have
died, sold at auctions, and so on.
Fortunately after a long search I have positively confirmed that
this organ was shipped new to Norumbega Park in the Auburndale
section of Newton, Massachusetts. Miraculously, it remained there
on the same carousel until the park closed in 1963. From there the
story gets more complicated but the lost history has finally been
solved up to the present.
I would like to document as much information as I can about the
organ's life at Norumbega Park. I have been in touch with the
Norumbega historical society but they have very little documentation
on the park's carousel other then it was a Dentzel and only a few
pictures. I currently have a couple of the carousel preservation
groups checking their archives as well and some other inquiries
pending.
This might be a long shot but at this time I would like to appeal
to anyone on MMD who may have visited Norumbega Park and/or have any
photographs of this carousel and it's band organ. If so I would
appreciate scanned copies of them to include in my compilation of
historical data.
Thank you,
Rob Goodale
