Hello All, from smokey Southern California! I'm writing to seek
parts for a 1920s Cable upright player that is at my mom's house
in suburban Chicago, far from the blazes afflicting our fair state.
The stack was restored by the inimitable Frank Trotta and works fine.
I did the pumps in my high school years and despite some novice
mistakes it holds vacuum well. However, the piano action needs
replacement brass action rails as the tabs/tongues have become too
brittle to accept the torque needed to adjust the hammer butts.
I understand Schaff Piano Supply may be able to create new ones,
but at a price too high for me and my mom and, quite frankly, for
the long term value of that simple beast, the foot pump player.
Since we mechanical music fans are hoarders and pack rats at heart,
I'm wondering if anyone might have a scrap Cable piano action with
salvageable brass action rails. While I imagine the Cable company
probably had a few versions of this part, I'm hoping that someone
reading this will have the knowledge, experience and hopefully, the
parts to help me in my quest to keep my mom's piano going for many
years to come.
Thanks in advance,
Marc J. Sachnoff
