Next Tuesday, November 11, sees mechanical music featuring in the
Collectors Sale at Dreweatt's Auction Room in Apsley Road, Bristol
BS8 2SE, UK. A Seeburg nickelodeon, a Hicks-type barrel piano,
a Lecoultre snuffbox and an organette or two are there, not to mention
some optical devices such as a (very incomplete) musical praxinoscope
and a zoetrope. The main feature of the sale is the phonograph and
gramophone collection of the late Ron Armstrong. Over 100 lots
include phonographs (with an Edison Class M among many others),
cylinders, gramophones (including a coin-operated 'Trade Mark' model)
and spare parts.
An illustrated catalogue is available on line now at http://www.dnfa.com/
I catalogued most of the Mechanical Music items in the sale, so will
endeavour to answer any technical enquiries about the lots.
