Regarding Tom Chase's comments in 081027 MMDigest, I wholeheartedly
agree. During the Italian Renaissance, Italian noblemen desecrated
statues made by the Romans by removing the original heads and
replacing them with their own likenesses, much to the chagrin of
later archaeologists and art historians.
To replace an original roll system with another (even though this
was a common practice by Wurlitzer on competitor's band organs taken
in on trade) for the sake of having available music should be the
very last resort -- if done at all. Better to have one original roll,
for demonstration, install a non-destructive and easily removable MIDI
system, have existing files adapted to the instruments' scale for
musical variety than to permanently convert it to another roll style.
Also, Frank Himpsl can re-cut Peerless "O" rolls to order I believe.
