I have been the owner of a Triumph Auto for two years now and have
been a visitor to this and other sites of interest in attempts to find
out any useful facts about the instrument. Until now I have had little
success. It is with great thanks to Adam Ramet for posting the
catalogue from the manufacturer for my piano that this situation has
greatly improved. I can now say with some certainty that I own a model
"Autophonola", which when new sold for 112 Guineas, according to the
price list. I paid £350 so it has accrued in value!
I have read several other posts on this site stating that Triumph
pianos were very much budget instruments. With this new information,
could others say if this is the case? The instrument plays well, leaks
little air and this is, I am sure, mostly concerns the Autopiano
mechanism's use of lead for piping instead of rubber. The only rubber
hoses are on the tracking mechanism, these have been replaced with PVC
tubing. I have read in books that the Autopiano mechanism was of very
high quality, clearly this view is at odds with the view expressed
elsewhere about the bargain price.
Any comments would be appreciated.
