Here's a new one on me. I'm in the final throes of restoring an
H.C. Bay player in a Belmore upright, and at the risk of offending
fans of either, may I say I'm not impressed with the piano or the
player. However, I'm contracted to finish this instrument, so let's
finish it up.
The current conundrum is that the Play/Reroll linkage moves the
pinion gear only about 1/16". Is this common in an H.C. Bay? There
are no adjustments in the linkage, and everything is just where it
was when I dismantled it. So, any bright thinkers out there got
a way to increase the throw of the Play/Reroll linkage? I considered
replacing a solid control rod with an adjustable one, as in a Standard,
but that wouldn't increase the throw, only make it easier to adjust.
I suppose I'm looking at making a longer finger or something like that.
Any brilliant ideas will be readily entertained.
