I'm very sad to hear this. I had the opportunity to visit Dave about
15 years ago at his place in Donnellson, Iowa. He was fascinating and
his place was fantastic.
Dave was a railroad nut. Rather then just being content with model
railroads like most hobbyist, Dave settled on the real thing. He had
a lot of land encircled with full scale railroad track. In front of
his shop was an 1800s vintage rusted steam locomotive that he was
preparing to restore like new. Further down the track was a complete
actual railroad station which he had relocated onto his property and
restored completely. I never made it out there again but I'm sure once
his project was complete it would have been something to behold!
His shop was littered with Tangley parts, both original and
reproductions. I remember one CA-43 he had in a corner of the shop
that was just a hulk of solid rust. I don't know where it had been but
it looked like it spent a lot of time at the bottom of a lake!
