Cleaning the Tracker Bar with a Vacuum Cleaner
By Bruce Clark

I have always used the vacuum cleaner to clean the tracker bar on
the Ampico, and other players. To make it easier, I bought a rubber
replacement nozzle to fit a tracker bar pump, and adapted it to fit
the vacuum cleaner hose.

Not all vacuum cleaners have enough suction, but our old Electrolux
pulls over 70 inches of vacuum, and does a splendid job of cleaning
the tracker bar.

One thing I might mention is in the Model A Ampico, the automatic
expression cutout block contains leather pouches that allow air to
travel in only one direction. When vacuum is applied to the tracker
bar over the expression ports, nothing is cleaned because the leather
pouch is pulled downward by the vacuum trying to remove the dust.

The automatic expression cutout also contains fine screens that trap
dust. The only way to clean out the screens is to dismantle this block
or blow through the upper nipple, which inflates the pouch and pushes
the dust out of the bottom nipple.

I also recommend applying cleaning vacuum directly to the various
nipples on the expression system and pedal unit valves.

The model B Ampico does not have this problem. Very late Ampico A's
eliminated the automatic expression cutout entirely.
