Ruth Organ at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
By Tom DeLay

Ref. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz7fYYfMHgQ

I first saw and heard the Ruth organ about 1968 or so. Even in 1968,
the case was missing. In all the literature written on the 100th
anniversary of the Santa Cruz B'walk and carousel, I have yet to see
a photo showing the Ruth organ with its original facade. And yes,
even in 1968, the Ruth organ was "under glass" and speaking through
some adjustable 4" x 12" window panes that could be opened and closed
to let more or less sound out.

My step-mother grew up in Santa Cruz and lived there from 1911 to 1971.
She said before the organ was put under glass, it could be heard very
clearly around the Bay side of Santa Cruz and the surrounding
residential hills.
