Fair Organs Should Play More Modern Music
By Mike Carey
The current thread regarding modern music played on older automatic
musical instruments reminds me of a reverse situation. I have two CDs:
(1) "The London Symphony Orchestra Plays The Music Of Jethro Tull"
(a rock group from the UK, noted for having a flute player, Ian
Anderson, as lead vocals and solos), and
(2) "The London Symphony Orchestra Plays The Music Of ABBA" (the
current 'Momma Mia' movie not withstanding).
The CDs are incredible, due to the fact that someone was able to take
music like that and arrange it for a modern orchestra. The same
applies to the automatic music world. It takes a lot of time, plus
someone with the ability and finesse, to make the arrangements work.
I once had somebody ask me if I had a roll of "Megadeath" (heavy-metal
rock) music for my Ampico. I _really_ had to suppress the urge to
punch the guy in the mouth!
