Dear MMD, I received an informative call from Robbie this afternoon
(30 June) informing me that folks that were responding to my MMD request
were having their email blocked by my ISP. He suggested that I create
a new email account specifically for MMD. Thus the new email address.
My initial request had been for an operators manual for a 1980
Universal Piano Company nickelodeon and the large Play-Rite fold out
type roll boxes. I wish to thank Robbie for the courtesy call this
afternoon.

[ Each week I get "bounce" messages that say the MMDigest was
[ not delivered to the addressee because the content is suspected
[ spam or because mmdigest.com (foxtail.com) appears on a 'black list'
[ of URLs suspected of relaying malicious emails. It's difficult to
[ get the big ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to investigate the
[ matter.
[
[ For example, my own local ISP, LinkLine.com, occasionally discards
[ emails to me with no warning and no explanation. When I asked what
[ could be done I was told that the spam filter was applied to all
[ email accounts equally, as requested by their big business customers,
[ and it is not possible to disable the mechanism. The only way I know
[ that email isn't delivered is when I get a copy of the same message
[ via Foxtail.com. That proves the problem lies with the ISP.
[
[ So I'm glad that Tom has established a second ISP for reliable
[ communication with MMDers. Jody recommends Google Gmail because
[ it's free, its spam filter is trainable and he thinks it is very
[ effective and, most importantly, it doesn't "throw out the baby with
[ the bath water!"

[ The triggers for declaring a message SPAM vary a lot. I am going
[ to experiment today by taking out the donation link at the bottom
[ of the Digest. If you get the Digest today, and haven't received
[ in in a while, please let us know, since that change may help.

[ P.S. If you want to make an online contribution to the publication
[ of the MMD, the donation link is available at the bottom of most
[ pages on the MMD website.
