On Monday 9th June I was invited to the formal re-opening of the
Musical Museum in Brentford on the western outskirts of London. The
special guest was Sir Christopher Frayling. He was perhaps uniquely
qualified for the task of opening the Museum. Not only is he the
Chairman of the Arts Council of Great Britain and Rector of the Royal
College of Art but also great grandson of Daniel Imhof, whose firm made
some of the wonderful orchestrions that now live in the Museum.
The museum's Wurlitzer is now on a lift so Richard Cole, the curator,
made a grand entrance at the console.
Many of you will have visited the museum in the atmospheric but
ramshackle surroundings of St George's church. It's quite a shock to
see everything so bright and well polished. Let's hope that the future
of Frank Holland's vision is equally bright.
If you are coming to London this is a "must visit". As always, it will
be a pleasure to meet fellow MMDers when they are in London.
The Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 1100 to 1730. Admission £7,
concessions £5.50, under 16 free. http://www.musicalmuseum.co.uk/
