John, Believe it or not, the 30-1/2-inch deep piano will easily
go through a 28" door (not with a big shoe-horn) but by simply by
removing the pneumatic stack, piano action, keys and the key bed
from the piano. This will allow the bottom legs to be "hooked"
around the door facing. By turning the case about to clear the
bottom legs, it will easily go through.
Once the case is in the house, simply put it back together. No harm,
no foul. I have had to do this several times to retrieve an old
player piano from a basement where they "remodeled" the door opening,
forgetting that the piano may have to come out of there someday!
It also answers the question I am often asked, "How did you get that
player piano in your motor home?" <chuckle)
