While re-covering the bottom bellows assembly on a 65-note Pianola
pushup, I came across a leak source I thought I'd pass along. The
reservoir has an internal canvas strap, on the end opposite the
hinge, underneath the heavy bellows cloth.
Not being satisfied with the rate at which the reservoir was opening,
after having giving everything the proper shellacking, using the proper
cloth, etc., I noticed I could see the edge of the internal canvas
strap underneath the heavy bellows cloth, even though the cloth was
glued down quite well.
So I ran a liberal bead of Eileen's Tacky Glue over the spot, collapsed
the reservoir, and watched in amazement at the amount of glue that was
sucked up into the canvas strapping. The seepage longitudinally along
the fibers of the canvas was, apparently, considerable.
This simple fix made a considerable difference in the time it took for
the reservoir to open.
