I'm planning to introduce a Duo-Art test roll in my next batch of
issues, expected in a few weeks. This will be the British-pattern
roll, not the more familiar "Test roll 3", because I've not got
a scan of the latter to copy. I'm just checking out the details
and differences -- in significant details it's the same, although
lacking a test piece at the end. I think Duo-Art test rolls differ
in the number of notes in the play/don't-play sections.
Anyhow, this will be cut with proper-size 'snakebites', and all
the accents will be correctly aligned with the notes being accented!
What I can't do, though, is provide a fully-printed set of instructions
on the roll; these will have to be on a separate accompanying sheet.
In the longer term it would be nice to construct a more thorough
Duo-Art test roll, the sort of thing that might help diagnose faults
and help realign settings after major work. The original test rolls
are for the type of fine regulation needed by working instruments, so
don't delve into matters Aeolian would have regarded as trade issues.
All that needs doing is actually produce it. Some day, perhaps.
