My 1921 C. Kurtzmann & Co. player piano has a Standard action which
was restored in the 1980s and always played well. Sometime in the
1990s it was moved to my daughter's home where it was not played,
just stored, and in 2005 it would not play when I tried it.
After I treated the valve chest leather gasket with neatsfoot oil it
played well for about eight months and then became progressively more
difficult to play, until now it will not play at all. I cannot be
certain, but I feel that the same leather gasket that I treated has
dried out.
I am getting old and I no longer have the vision, the dexterity, or the
will to do the required work. I am hoping that someone will find this
old piano useful; for repair, for parts, or whatever. It would really
grieve me to have to break it up. The piano is located in Hollywood,
Florida. Photos are available on-line.
