Hello All! It has been about 10 years since my last submission to
the MMDigest. Normally I'm an avid reader but this time I need some
help in finding a missing part.
I was recently given a wonderful little gem of a Recordo grand by
a very dear close friend of mine. It's a Schaff Brothers 4'8" Simplex
Recordo (#46163) that is in original but very nice hand-playing
condition. The player action does need a full restoration however,
but before I can start on that, there is one integral part missing.
I have never seen another Recordo up close, so I'm not sure of any
variations, but the entire player system, minus pump and sustain
pneumatic, is completely contained in the drawer. The stack being at
the rear of the drawer played, apparently, via a mounted set of motion
transfer levers, up to poppets that push up on the rear of the keys.
At some point in this pianos life, the drawer was removed and stored
separately from the rest of the piano. Along with that, this long
assembly of pivoting or swinging levers was also removed and hence
lost. If this type of mechanism is similar to other Simplex Recordo
drawers, then I would hope that they may be either interchangeable,
or at least adaptable to work in my situation.
You have the back story, now here's the question! Does anyone out there
know of what apparatus I'm referring to? If so, could someone please
furnish me with either a picture of this setup so that I may recreate
it OR even better, with all the orphaned parts out there, be able to
sell me this motion transfer set of linkages so that I may get started
on my rebuild? I can of course furnish any required photos or
measurements to any interested parties for proper understanding.
I am located in Southern Florida. Thank you all and search those
attics and basements.
