Hello from Butler, Pennsylvania; hope everyone's new year is off
to a good start. For the past few weeks our local newspaper, The
Butler Eagle, has been doing articles on the "things" people collect.
Being into restoring and collecting jukeboxes and record players for
a number of years, I called the contact number of the person doing
the stories. Turns out they were not very interested in the jukeboxes
and such but were interested in my band organ project. To my delight,
last Friday they came to my home to take pictures and interview me.
Needless to say, I built mechanical music up big!
The article is in tonight's newspaper (Wednesday, February 13, 2008)
under "Carnival Of Sound", in big black print. They have color photos
of both the front and back of the organ. The picture of the front of
the organ fills almost the whole top of the page. The article is quite
long and runs onto the next page. I am very pleased the way this
turned out -- talk about free publicity!
Moral of the story: anytime that we can get mechanical music out in
the spotlight, take advantage of it. Let your local and/or neighboring
newspapers know of your passion if you haven't already, or let a friend
make the call.
Hope to see you at the band organ rallies, and keep those roll frames
turning!
Regards,
Joe Kemph
