I am keen to find any good recording of the Gavioli 98-key organ in the
centre of the Gondola Switchback now at Thursford, Norfolk, UK. I have
fond memories (1950s-1960s) of hearing it -- and its deafening steam
whistle -- and riding on its fantastically ornate Gondolas every year
at the November Portland Fair. It was then run by the Coles family.
I and many others missed the sound, sight and smell of its steam power
when it was converted to diesel generation. Of course we missed it
stopped travelling here, but now knowing its value it is obviously in
the best place and well restored.
I am now a published local historian and would like any more information
on it, but especially any CD quality recording. Unfortunately Norfolk
is a bit far from south coast Portland to warrant a special visit.
I hope someone can help. Many thanks.
