I suggest your first step to be returning to your grandparents' house,
and making inquiries as to whether the piano is still there, or if
anybody knows where it has gone. The piano may very well have been
shoved into a corner or storage area of this roomy house years ago.
This will require some detective work: possibly going to the county
clerk and looking up real estate deeds, etc.

To aid in the search print up some fliers giving your story, and offer
a fat finder's fee, which will motivate people to a surprising degree.
