Cable Inner Player Pedal Door Operation & Parts
By Steven Harrod

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

We have a beautiful, restored 1914 Cable, inner player, that is
a dream to pump. The restoration is actually 10 years old, by Dan
Tuttle in Indianapolis. The pedal doors fold upward by pulling
a large flat bar lever out from under the keyboard.

This mechanism is balky and requires helping hands to push the door
up the remaining few inches. The mechanism leverage appears to be
insufficient once the doors are partially folded. Severe wear and
mechanism deformation indicates this has been a problem for a long
time. We have resorted to leaving the pedals out all the time.

Is this a design defect in this piano, or is there some hope of fixing
it? Also, the keyslip hardware is not original. Anyone scrapping
a Cable or have replacement hardware? This is the narrow keyslip that
slides out on two slides with flat springs.
