Dear fellow organ enthusiasts, Here is an open invitation. Aeolian
Pipe Organ Op. 1458 has been in my possession now since Dec. 2001.
Because of limited space and time, restoration only really began in
earnest in May 2005. That was when I started on the monster coupler
chest in which I had mistakenly severed many wires as I worked out the
best way to move it. I have paid dearly for that mistake! The console
was next, started in October of the same year. Much re-wiring and new
woodwork needed here.
The next big job was the re-leathering of the chests, 19 ranks duplex,
5-rank solo plus pedal. This was a long, long job during which I almost
gave up hope of ever hearing the finished job. But, in September '06
there were enough ranks playing on the solo chest to invite the Player
Piano Group to hear "the baby's first words". To date, we have all
ranks playing, the setter board is active, and within the last two
weeks the Duo-Art player was connected up.
The purpose of this mail is to invite you to the inaugural concert
on Saturday, 23rd February 2008. Of course more details will follow,
but if you find you can be free, and wish to visit our shores for an
_organistic spectacle!_ Please consider yourselves warmly invited!
I am expecting, for understandable reasons, less than 10% of those
of you who come from overseas to be able to attend but, as space
will be severely limited, if you could give me some indication of
the likelihood of you're being able to make it by the end of the year
I'd be very grateful.
I live in Exeter, in the south west of the country and if you have
access to Google Earth you can see what a beautiful place it is
(although a bit barren this time of year). Using my post code (EX4 4HE)
you can see the house, and with a bit of imagination, the organ chamber
extension out the back. There are small hotels in my road, and larger
establishments within easy walking distance. Flights would be cheap at
this time of year. Tempted?...
Sincere best wishes,
Paul Morris
