Motora & Motor Player Corp. Aren't the Same
By Spencer Chase
Hello, There seems to be a little confusion. Motor Player Corp. and
Motora are not the same. The Motora is the bad pump. Yes, it could
be an okay pump if rewound with modern wire, carefully balanced and
all other details are attended to.
The two Motor Player Corp. pumps that I have had were both very well
made. I had one rewound and balanced and it is running almost silently
in my Welte Vorsetzer. It can run at about 140% design voltage for
long periods. I have added a thermal protector but I can tell by the
smell given off from the old felt muffler just how hot it is running
and it has never gotten very hot. I replaced the bearings with sealed
cartridge bearings and these should be able to take the heat if it does
get a little hot. The enamel coated wire certainly can.
Best regards,
Spencer Chase
[ Thanks for alerting us, Spencer. I find mention in the MMD Archives
[ that Motor Player Corp. sold a complete kit of player parts which
[ included the turbine suction pump. The firm who actually fabricated
[ the turbine pump of cast aluminum isn't known. -- Robbie
