Hello list, Tom Ahearn from Maine here in Washington State working
on a beautiful Chickering Art Case Model B grand retrofit for AMICA
past president Dan Brown. The stack had been previously "restored"
(the pneumatics were sloppily recovered in red Polylon fabric, which
failed at the folds).
The previous rebuilder lost three of the long spring clamps which
secure the pneumatic tier boards to the valve chest. (Not the smaller
spring clamps which hold the valves onto the chest; I'm all set with
these.) He did come up with a moderately ingenious solution: he used
three small coil springs with washers to replace the missing clamps,
but it's not what should be there.
The spring clamps I need are the ones which secure the pneumatic tier
boards to the main wind chest of the B Ampico. They look like the
Model B valve spring clamps, but are longer (2-1/2"), skinnier (only
1/2") and about twice as thick; they have the "butterfly" pattern like
the B stack valves (not strap metal like the A springs). The same
spring clamp was used on the "First Intensity Adjuster".
Any chance any MMDers might have a few (3) of these spring clamps in
their "spare parts" bin? I know it's a long shot, but I'm working
three thousand miles away from my shop back East.
I'll be back home in Maine next week, so if I have to I'll steal one
off of one of my Ampico stacks, but I now have Dan's stack ready to
assemble and it would be just great to be able to have it fully
assembled and tested before I leave. Help!
Thanks,
Tom Ahearn
