This roll was apparently issued, or at least intended to be issued, in
four formats: Ampico, Duo-Art, Recordo, & 88-note. My copy is coded
for the Duo-Art. It has a fancy leader signed by both Ursula Dietrich-
Hollinshead, who composed the piece, and J. Lawrence Cook, who arranged
the roll. A roll box label is pasted on the leader showing the four
serial numbers, A-001, DA-001, R-001, & 88-001. The format type for my
roll is added just above the tab and appears to have been hand-written.
Ursula was a concert pianist back in the 1920's who recorded for vari-
ous roll labels and toured as a "comparison artist" (comparing the roll
performance to her performance own on stage) for the Artrio Angelus
system.
People who had been active in the player piano field and in roll-making
back in the heyday of the player piano were eligible to become Honorary
Members of AMICA, and Ursula was one of the AMICA Honoraries, in which
capacity she attended several of our annual conventions. She performed
at these conventions, playing, at least once, "Sandman's Frolic," which
she had written for her granddaughter.
