Glue Questions
By John Phillips

Hello MMD. After having rebuilt three player actions, all of which are
still working satisfactorily, I can hardly believe I'm asking this
question. As a preamble I must confess that in rebuilding those three
actions I invested a lot of time in removing every trace of glue from
each surface, first by sanding and then by wetting the surface many
times and wiping off the water-swollen traces of glue that appeared.
Then I used fresh animal glue.

Question number 1. I think I was being pointlessly fussy. Was I?

Question number 2. I've now started rebuilding an Aeolian action and
am working on the air motor. This question concerns the circular
patches of pouch leather that are glued to the folding corners of the
pneumatic cloth. Should those patches have glue applied just around
their edges or over their entire area? I can envisage arguments in
favor of either method. I do plan to use PVC-E glue on those patches,
on account of that glue's greater flexibility. Nowhere else, I
promise!
