Seek MIDI Files of Organ Music Rolls
By Judson Murphy
I have been following the postings of piano roll scans with much
interest. It looks as if many folks are trying diligently to scan
and thus preserve wonderful old piano rolls for posterity. However,
I would like to know if anyone is also scanning organ rolls.
I have installed a very versatile electronic relay system, designed by
Pete Knobloch, in my 2/3 Louis Maas cabinet pipe organ. Pete's system
allows for direct MIDI input to the organ. It was simple to install
and easy to use. With this system I have been able to download some
of the free MIDI piano roll scans available out there and I play them
on the organ. However, they _do_ sound like piano music played on an
organ.
I am also seeking to buy a 58/65-note spool box with transmission, or
even just a 58-note spoolbox with transmission. I have many beautiful
58-note Aeolian Grand/Orchestrelle rolls and would love to be able to
play them on my pipe organ as well as the Orchestrelle. With this as
a base, perhaps I can build my own roll scanner. Can anyone out there
help me?
