Jackie and I just got back from New York and we had a great time.
On the mechanical music front we rode the carousel in Central Park
and had wonderful hospitality from Vincent & Maryam Morgan and
Marvin & Dianne Polan.
Amongst all the wonderful music boxes, roller organs, etc., the musical
highlight was Joseph Lhevinne playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on
the Polan's Mason & Hamlin Ampico B. A true golden age performance the
like of which you won't hear in a modern recording or concert. The
whole work was on one huge roll that only just fitted in the spoolbox.
Thanks again to all of you who offered hospitality. There just wasn't
the time to see all of you but I'm sure we'll be back!
