Wurlitzer 153 at Boulder Amusement Park
By Jon Fortunato

Hi All, Was wondering if anyone might know of the whereabouts of
a 153 Wurlitzer Band Organ that was last used at Boulder Amusement
Park in Indian Falls, New York. The park was open from 1949 to 1970.
The carousel was sold and dispersed a year or two after that.

If any one has access to the Wurlitzer records it was purchased by
Theo and Emilie Morrott in the late 'teens. The Morrott's opened
and operated Boulder Amusement Park.

I used to go to the park as a child back in the late 1950s through
the 60's. I had a chance to revisit the vacant and overgrown park
site recently. Many memories were brought back to life for me.

The carousel and the park are beautifully profiled in a book by
Cyndy Hennig Hanks, titled "Boulder Amusement Park, the Biography
of a Carousel" (available at the Carousel Store web site). The book
details the conception and design of the carousel, which had many
unusual menagerie figures not typical of the carousels of that era,
i.e., a large polar bear, giraffe, elephant, camel, lion, tiger as
well as the usual array of horses.

The book has a picture of the 153 and mentions how it was regularly
serviced in the area which was probably not a hard thing to come by
being that Indian Falls is about ten miles from North Tonawanda,
New York.

I'm interested in the organ just out my own curiosity. If anyone might
have pictures of the park I would be greatly interested in obtaining
copies.

Sincerely,
Jon Fortunato
