I'm sorry to have to report to his friends on this board that Charles
Walker passed away due to a sudden heart attack on Monday morning,
October 8, 2007. Here is a quote from National Carousel Association
president Bette Largent:
The Board of Directors of the National Carousel Association was
notified on Monday, October 8, 2007 of the sudden passing of Charles
W. Walker by long time friend, Mary Thrower. One of the original
founders and supporters of the NCA, he also served as the
Conservation Chairman and as the representative of the NCA to IAAPA.
With a life time passion for the American carousel and its music, he
will be missed by carousel friends, owners, operators and band
organ enthusiasts. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers
that donations be made in his name to the NCA Preservation Fund.
Condolences may be sent to: Mary Thrower, 708 S. Hill St., Griffin,
GA 30224-4831
Bette L. Largent, President, National Carousel Association
Charles had many interests (old mills, stage coach trails), but band
organs and carousels were high on his list and the contributions he
made to their continued enjoyment were many. He wrote many of the
articles which became the basis for the NCA Technical Manuals. Some
of his more recent work involved the carousel and band organ at
Lake Winnepesaukah, Georgia, where he recently helped organize organ
rallies. Some links:
