Hi All,
Kim Bunker here from Playerpianos.com. Some of you are probably won-
dering why I am even talking about Ragtime Automated Music systems.
I have retro-fitted many of Ken's early systems with his new pneu-
matics. The reason is that his early systems were like the "perflex"
of the 1970's, the great invention that wasn't. We all thought this
stuff was as great as sliced bread. Ken (Ragtime) later designed a
pneumatic system that is infinitely superior to the old aluminum-and-
perflex pneumatics. Since his redesign, fewer problems exist today in
Ragtime products. We here at Playerpianos.com have repaired several of
Ken's early systems, and not once have we needed to return for more
repairs.
All I'm saying today is "the proof is in the pudding." But I'll always
argue that the original player systems of yesteryear were the very best
ever made. The real improvement over time in those systems was the
introduction of neoprene rubber, pole-cured hose, and a much stronger
pneumatic cloth. These are now the standards we accept in the player
rebuilding industry.
Hide glue was the best available glue at the beginning of the 19th
century. There are glues available today that are much better to work
with. My "Kim" glue has now been tested for over a decade, and with
fantastic results, by us and a few known collectors. But only time
will tell the full story of this application.
On another note, we have revamped our website to introduce many new
player piano products available to our rather small industry. We now
have the largest used player piano roll inventory online today. The
current inventory is more than 15,000 rolls, with many types available.
