Adding a Xylophone or Bells to a Fotoplayer
By James Huffer

Hello All, I am trying to figure out the best alternative, method or
way to add a xylophone or glock to a small Fotoplayer. How were these
originally operated and connected to the tracker bar to maintain the
best historical accuracy?

Since I imagine that it will be used when the pipes are not in
operation, I would like to use pressure from the blower to operate the
beaters. The pipes speak when the piano action lowers a wooden tab
that opens a small valve on the wooden bar (I do not know what this is
correctly called) attached to the piano plate. I would like to tee
into the tubing that runs to the pipe chests for the xylophone.
Suggestions and guidance would be most appreciated.

The two pipe chest have each have their own style of valves for the
speaking of the pipes, which I find rather odd. Was it common for
differences in valve styles in the same instrument? As far as the
xylophone and the orchestra bells, what size sets were used? The
advertising mentioned 31 of the bells.

On a side note, the next time you are in Chicago make a stop at the
Deagan company building and see Gilberto Serna at Century Mallet.
The trip (about a mile from my house) was great and educational.

Thanks
James Huffer
